Wall hung basin

The rag bolt must be grouted into the cement or concrete wall. The bolts must be fixed to the cement/concrete wall itself — never to plaster or a hollow partition alone. Allow the setting to cure and check it before installing with nut and washer.

Counter wash basin — before you start

1. Use a skilled or experienced person to install counter lavatories.
2. Avoid using adhesive with this product.
3. Check the waste area and supply tubing, and replace if required.
4. Do not open the lavatory from its protective carton until you are ready to install.
5. Follow all local building and plumbing codes.

Material & tools

Measuring tape, keyhole or sabre saw, hammer, glasses, rags or paper towelling, drill (½" dia bit or larger), pencil, sealant, and a sharp knife or scissors.

Installing the lavatory

Install it so that future removal from underneath the counter top is possible without damaging the counter top.

1. Check the clearance between back splash, faucet, fixture and cabinet.
2. Cut the template.
3. Trace the template onto the counter top as directed.
4. Mark the faucet hole centreline on the counter top.
5. Drill a ½" pilot on the inside of the cut line.

Wood counter tops: pre-drill the screw holes at the template locations and waterproof any exposed wood.
Marble counter tops: position the counter top upside down on foam padding, mark and drill ⅜" holes ⅝" deep at the template locations, then set the anchors with a setting tool and hammer.

Maintenance

Wash basins. A mild detergent, once a day. After washing, wipe the basin dry to avoid water stains — this single habit does more for a basin's appearance than any cleaner.

Closets. A standard toilet cleanser with a soft plastic brush, at least once a day. To avoid minor discolouring, give the bowl a pass with the soft brush right after flushing, and keep the brush within reach.

Where a closet or basin has stood unused for a long period, water deposits and discolouration can form. These marks can be removed with dilute hydrochloric acid solution — carefully, and with ventilation. Otherwise clean with a soft cotton cloth and warm soapy water.

Never use thinner, dry cleaning liquids or powder paste. Use a liquid cleaner at least twice a week. For fine scratches, brasso or a car rubbing compound polished off with a cloth will lift them.
